1. Introduction
The Arterial Research and Educational Network in the Asia Pacific (ARENA-PAC) provides a wide-reaching and high-capacity backbone network in the Asia Pacific through interconnections with other research and education networks.
The ARENA-PAC is owned by the Asia Pacific Internet Development Trust (APIDT) and operated by the WIDE Project with support from APNIC (Asia Pacific Network Information Centre). More information about ARENA-PAC and the network can be found at www.arena-pac.net.
2. Scope
This Acceptable Use Policy (AUP) outlines how ARENA-PAC Partners and their end users may use the ARENA-PAC Network and Services.
3. Principles
The ARENA-PAC Network and Services is to be primarily used for research and education activities, provided they do not support commercial or for-profit activities or interfere with other networks and services.
ARENA-PAC is not intended to replace local commercial Internet services.
3.1 Good Collaboration
ARENA-PAC encourages partners to actively use the ARENA-PAC Networks and Services for research and education purposes.
ARENA-PAC reserves the right to stop a Partner’s traffic if their use affects ARENA-PAC’s ability to maintain continuous operation, including:
- If it exceeds normal use or disrupts the ARENA-PAC backbone.
- If it is found to be damaging to the interests of third parties.
- When there are other reasonable grounds for ARENA-PAC to consider it inappropriate.
If a Partner is intending to conduct high-traffic data transfer or experiments, regardless of temporal or persistent use, Partners should notify the community beforehand.
3.2 Prohibited activities
Partners and End-Users must not use the ARENA-PAC Network and Services for activities that are primarily commercial and profitable in nature.
3.3 Abuse considerations
ARENA-PAC recognizes that issues such as security, privacy, illegal activity, and offensive content may arise. Each partner is responsible for establishing and enforcing their own rules to manage abuse and protect themselves from legal liability in line with local laws, policies, and practices.
3.4 End-Users
Partners are responsible for all use of the ARENA-PAC Network and Services originating from their organisation, including by their end-users. Partners must ensure their end-users comply with this AUP.
3.5 Breach of AUP
ARENA-PAC reserves the right to monitor, restrict, suspend or terminate access to the ARENA-PAC Network and Services, where it considers it necessary to protect the integrity, security or lawful operation of the network.
