For a Connected and Resilient Pacific
Arterial Research and Educational Network in Asia Pacific (ARENA-PAC), operated by the WIDE project, today announces a major strategic milestone: the formal establishment of its high-capacity research and education network initiative in the Pacific region as a part of ARENA-PAC.
Since its launch, ARENA-PAC has focused on delivering advanced connectivity to research and education communities across Asia, working closely with national research and education networks (NRENs) and regional partners. These efforts have supported collaborative science, capacity building, and resilient network infrastructure across the Southeast and East Asia.
Building on this foundation, ARENA-PAC is now extending its mission further into the Pacific, where demand for reliable and high-bandwidth connectivity is rapidly increasing. We created our vision for the Pacific as follows:

Where research, education, innovation, culture, health, and inclusion enabled by technology empower communities to thrive in harmony with their environment.
ARENA-PAC will work with local colleges and universities, Research and Education Networks (RENs), telecommunication providers, and technical partners to jointly develop strategies that bring Pacific R&E communities into the global fabric of interconnected research and education networks.
By leveraging new submarine cable capacity, ARENA-PAC plans to establish interconnection points and backbone circuits to provide reliable, high-performance R&E connectivity. This will energize research and education activities across island communities and advance regional collaboration throughout the Pacific and beyond.
Through this vision, ARENA-PAC aims to strengthen inter-island research collaboration, support digital education, and establish access to global scientific partnerships, together with our partners in the region.
About ARENA-PAC: Arterial Research and Educational Network in Asia-Pacific (ARENA-PAC) is a backbone network with the purpose of research and education and is made up of an international submarine cable network constructed to expand the Internet in the Asia-Pacific region, operated by WIDE Project, and represented by Prof. Jun Murai, Keio University Global Research Institute.
